a good game to play

Blogging on body mind awareness or am I in bodymindfulness whilst blogging? Welcome to my blog site. I realised recently that I really like writing and although I’m no Shakespeare I’ve decided to join the world of blogging because I like it, it feels good, it gets the words out of me – I think that’s the bit that feels good.

Many years ago I learned to teach the Alexander Technique and although when reaching the end of a long and full training I thought that I was a very knowledgeable lady. Over a decade later I realise that it was just the very beginning of a long journey into understanding me and how to keep myself present in my body; not just when it feels good, but all the time.

So I practise staying present, keeping consciousness in all areas of my body. This means having an awareness all the time of my back, my front my sides, my head my toes and even my arse! It’s like keeping an eye on yourself watching to see your response to the stimulus of life.

A friend gives you a compliment. How do you respond? Shrug your shoulders in denial, squirm and feel awkward or just let the lovely feeling of being appreciated for who you are flow through you. It’s entirely our choice how we respond; however the skilful person will be aware of their response.

So open your eyes to take in your surroundings and then notice you. How are you in these surroundings? How is your body feeling? What are you choosing to do with it right now? Are you conscious of your toes, or are they so far from your busy mind that they’ve barely any life in them at all??

I recommend this to everyone, it’s a game we can all play and get really good at. Try it and see what you think!
